Barley

Hi, my name is Bentley!  I’m the youngest one of this pack and I want to share my version of the story about our mom, Barley (now Bella) and my four brothers and sisters and how we got saved.  I promise that our story has a happy ending.

It gets really hot where we are from and I don’t know why, but someone decided to dump our mom in an agricultural area near Bakersfield, CA and she was pregnant!  It was around 110 degrees when a nice person found mom on July 4, 2024 and took her in.  She looked malnourished and dehydrated and thankfully this nice lady fed mom and gave her all the water she wanted.  Mom was very relieved and tired – but do you know that mom started to give birth to all of us several hours later?  We are so thankful that there are good humans in this crazy world.

This is me at almost 4 weeks old, about to have a bath at Mama Angi’s house…

So I guess mom’s angel had some friends named Angi and Kady and they offered to take care of mom and all of us while we were “littles”.  We were magically transported to this really cool horse ranch in a place called Somis.  Mom made sure that we all knew how special this was for our family and with all of the love, attention and care that Mama Angi and Kady were giving us, we started THRIVING instead of surviving.  We were learning a lot of really great skills, how to eat out of a bowl, navigate up and down stairs and our mom was doing great too! Soon we were all getting ready to socialize so that we could meet our human families and find our furrever homes.

Here is a picture of us when we were just six weeks old (I’m the black one).

Since I’m telling this story I get to go first!  I was born with this white marking on my chest and when I sit just right it looks just like a crescent moon.  I was called the runt of the litter and I’m a little different than my brothers and sisters because I got my mom’s smooth coat and my tail isn’t quite as curly like the rest of the pack.  People tell my mama that I’m “such a good dog”.  They don’t see what goes on behind the big red fence where I live. ; )

Next I’ll tell you about my sister, Brie.  She got her name because Mama Angi fed her a little Brie cheese and she wolfed it down.  Honestly, she wolfs everything down, maybe that is because she is filled with so much energy.  Brie and I got to be part of the same family but we live at different houses.  We play hard 2-3 days a week at my house.  We are really lucky to have a big yard to explore and run around in. Some times we get get involved in some interesting shenanigans….

The biggest dude of the pack is our brother Niko, he’s got the most hair out of all of us too.  He is definitely the zen master of the group.  He actually got to go live with our dog mom, that’s when she became a Bella!  Niko and Bella live with their mama and dad and Cieli, who was also part of mama Angi and Kady’s rescue family and had 6 puppies of her own.

Our brother Churro is the life of the party, he was always very curious and great at leading us into mischief when we were littles.  Churro has a sweet family of three.  We can’t wait to see and play with him when the rains stop, there is non-stop adventures to be had in our yard.

Last but not least is our sweet little sister Luna.  That’s my middle name, it’s funny I don’t think that was planned – it just worked out that way.  Luna lives close by with her mama and dad and I know she is probably even sweeter now, we have to definitely get her to level up her monkey business..

It’s hard to think about what would have happened to us if it hadn’t been for our Bakersfield angels, Mama Kady and Angi at Puppy Love Maternity Rescue and now our loving families that are giving us the best doggo life possible.

Again, my name is Bentley (like the car), this is the story of my little family and thank you for reading it and continuing to support dogs like me.  If you want you can follow my adventures on Instagram @bentleylunabusted and don’t forget to follow @puppylove.rescue too, maybe you can find your next soul dog there.
